Designed by Leddy Maytum Stacy, ZETA built the California Shakespeare Festival Entry Station as part of the renovation and expansion of the Bruns Amphitheater. The overall project includes the renovation of the 545 seat seasonal outdoor theater and the addition of new buildings for patrons and artist support services. Designed to blend with the natural surroundings of the Siesta Valley, The Sharon Simpson Center includes new dressing rooms, green room, wardrobe room, tech support spaces, staff offices, theater store and cafe. The 7,000 s.f. structure is topped with a living roof which provides habitat for native species and a visual link to the hillside beyond. The integration of sustainable design features and strategies throughout the project maximizes energy, water and material conservation, while minimizing impacts on the site and existing landscape. This center along with a new ticketing area, public plaza and outdoor event spaces comprise Phase 1 of the renovation project. Phase 2 will include the complete renovation of the theater technical services, stage and amphitheater.
