The Public Facility's open floor plan and infinitely configurable large spaces enable public agencies' programs to evolve, change and grow. The overall design concept for the facility combines two flexible, economical, modular buildings flanking a central main courtyard and linked by a pedestrian promenade. A series of design elements are included to achieve the highest levels of energy efficiency, thermal comfort, sustainability and indoor air quality for the center and its occupants. The two buildings are assembled from a series of 16 ft. ZETA high-performance modules prefabricated with finished integral floors and roofs and minimal support walls. The exterior cladding is fiber cement board panels installed as a rainscreen with an alternating color pattern. The modules also include clerestory windows and solar tube skylights for ample natural daylighting. With appropriate siting and neighborhood context, the design could achieve the highest green certifications based ZETA's ultra-efficient building envelope, high performance integrated HVAC system, cool roof and high efficiency lighting.
Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects is nationally recognized for the design of innovative yet cost-effective learning environments. They believe in the power of buildings as teachers, connecting us to each other and to the world around us at many levels: By clearly expressing their functions - how they breathe, admit light, resist gravity, conserve precious resources, and consume, generate and recycle energy. Our educational environments convey important daily lessons in eco-literacy and environmental stewardship. // By offering flexible, welcoming places to gather at many scales. Our educational environments foster strong learning communities and support cross-disciplinary collaboration.
